Envisioning Justice partners with community-based organizations across the city to create arts education and community discussion programs that promote creative solutions by Chicagoans to the negative impacts of incarceration in their community.
From March to December 2018, these hubs will be home to teaching artists, community arts projects, open houses, and monthly conversations that will engage diverse perspectives in identifying those negative impacts of the criminal justice system and imagining ways for transformation.
The #LetUsBreathe Collective is an alliance of artists and activists organizing through a creative lens to imagine a world without prisons and police. The Collective operates the Breathing Room space, a Black-led liberation hub for arts, organizing, and healing on Chicago's South Side.
Bright Star Community Outreach will coordinate programming in conjunction with its existing community advocacy and partnerships - aimed at addressing youth trauma, mental health, and violence in the Bronzeville community.
OPEN Center for the Arts anchors Envisioning Justice's programming in La Villita and will work with a variety of community groups and members to support arts education.
Programming in North Lawndale takes place at BBF Family Services and is led by Jeramey Winfield, with support from Urban Gateways.
Circles & Ciphers will lead programming in Rogers Park that builds upon their existing work to engage the larger Rogers Park community.
